Be A Goldfish: A Multifandom Multimedia Microbang

That's right, we're gearing up for Round 3 (2026-B) here at Be a Goldfish! This round starts 1 July and will run until 31 August.

We've made several updates to the RuleDoc (which used to be called the FAQ and then we realized it wasn't actually a FAQ at all) so definitely go give that a read if you're thinking about jumping in.

Among those updates, we've included a link to this round's prompts which have been expanded dramatically to include both prompts and mediums as well as links to several resources, some inspiration, and some fannish history. Now is a great time to check those out and start brainstorming!

We're also introducing a one-size-fits-all comment bingo to help guide, inspire, and encourage folks on their commenting journey. Our philosophy is that you don't have to be a creator to participate in a fanwork event. Commenters, as fans of fanwork are what make fandom go round, so if you're not feeling particularly creative right now, no worries, we would still love to see you around! Like the punch cards, we offer full color and black and white versions should you decide to take a more tactile approach. You can find previews of those cards and links to their folders in the RuleDoc.

We look forward to joining you all on this voyage of creativity, passion, and love for media, fandom, and the fans that make it all happen. We're gonna be sharing some more posts this month and later throughout the round, so don't think you've heard the last of us just yet.

This round has gone swimmingly: we've had so much fun creating, commenting, and connecting with our incredible community throughout the course of the past two months. We hope you've had a blast, seen some cool shit, made some cool shit, experienced fannish bardic inspiration, and perhaps even made some friends! We know we have.

Whether you enjoyed this round and are looking forward to participating again, didn't manage to share all the works you wanted to this time, or are looking forward to hopping in next time as a rookie participant, we have great news!

We will be hosting a second 2026 round later this year beginning in July. In fact, we intend to host two rounds per year for the foreseeable future! Hold for applause. Please feel free to keep cooking up ideas, locking down collaborators, experimenting, exploring, making, and chipping away at those wips, because you haven't seen the last of us yet!

Promotion for the next round will begin in a few months, so keep a weather eye out, share with your friends, and get ready to rumble.

One more big thanks: you've been incredible! We're truly overwhelmed by the incredible outpouring of fannish love, enthusiasm, and creation, and we can't begin to express our gratitude. Cheers, fish friends!

All of that being said, a few housekeeping reminders:

• Our FAQ is linked in our Welcome Sticky, the community sidebar, and the AO3 Collection Profile. In it are all links to all event pages, work and posting guidelines, and resources for writing image descriptions and comments. Give it a read if you haven’t yet.


• Please make sure you're filling out the Entry Submission Form whenever you share a work. As we've said, folks are sharing works across different sites, and we don't want anyone's work to get left behind. You can find the link to the form in our FAQ, our Welcome Sticky, and in the community sidebar.


• If you've had trouble locating the AO3 Collection, you can do so from our FAQ, our Welcome Sticky, or the community sidebar. All works posted to AO3 can be added, whether they are fic, podfic, art, or something else!


• When it comes to tagging entries, with !needs tag or otherwise, please make sure you are doing so in the the Tags: box of the Post an Entry page. This is so we can locate all entries in need of tags rather than checking each entry.


• Similarly, all entries should have a Subject that includes the medium and title or a brief description. You may also include fandom if you wish, as that is an important descriptor. This makes it easy for folks to view all works on a page in the community sidebar, and determine if your work may be of interest to them!


• It is a priority that this event be made accessible for all fans, meaning that all images and gifs must include alt text and/or a description of the relevant contents of that image. We have resources for writing alt text and descriptions linked in our FAQ if you’re not sure how to go about it. You can add alt text via the Short Description box in the Image Properties pop-up in the Rich Text Editor.

Finally, we want to thank you all for joining us during this first week! We hope you're all having happy new years, and we appreciate that you're spending yours with us.
