It's the final countdown! We're just a couple days out from the conclusion of Be A Goldfish: A Multifandom Multimedia Microbang 2026-A, but don't tune out quite yet. We're still swimming and winning!

Join us today, Friday, and Saturday for our comment crawl, sneak in a few final works, perhaps prompt-inspired, finish up your punch card, and remember to post your works here in our Dreamwidth community, use our tag on tumblr, add your fics to our AO3 collection, and fill out any last-minute entry submissions! Don't be shy, the water's fine! Your participation is welcome, encouraged, and awesome.

Finally, remember to fill out our Feedback Form! Help us improve this event: let us know what you loved, what you liked, and what you hated. It's totally anonymous, and your voice matters to us.

BTW: We're just 25 works away from 200! Will you help us reach that milestone?

Hey folks! We hope you've had fun interacting with and sharing works these past couple months, and that you continue to do so in these final days.

As we begin to wrap things up, we wanted to take a second to remind you that we have a feedback form! In it are some questions we have for all of you, as well as an open response.

All of the questions are optional, so you can answer whichever ones you like. You're welcome to submit the form multiple times if your answers change or you think of something else you want us to know about. It's completely anonymous and we want you to speak freely. Your reponses will not be shared outside the mod team.

We want this event to be fun, exciting, and safe for all fans. We will read every response and work on making sure this event is the best it can possibly be. We know very well that there is always room for improvement and your voices are essential in helping us do that.

If, for whatever reason, you would like a personal response from our mod team, shoot us an email directly at bagfishbang@gmail.com with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Click the link above or below and take a look! We'd love to hear from you! The form will stay open until 7 March, so there's no rush to get your response in now.

Home stretch! We're just a week and a half out from the conclusion of Be A Goldfish: A Multifandom Multimedia Microbang. Time to celebrate! In recognition of all of the lovely works shared throughout the event, as well as the even-lovelier folks who made them, we are hosting a weekend-long Comment Crawl. Time to evolve some digits and hit the keyboards, fellow goldfish!

From Friday 26 February to Sunday 28 February, join us in leaving as many comments on as many event works as you can. These can be compliments, encouragement, thanks, theories, nonsensical keysmashes, emoji hieroglyphics, and/or all of the above!

Check out our FAQ for various commenting resources, from prompts to bingos to festivals, including tumblr's iconic comment skeleton, @justleaveacommentfest. They have curated a number of helpful links, including these comment starter prompts for those who aren't sure what to say or are looking to switch things up.

Can you feel the love tonight? Put your fins and flippers together for a week seven of Be a Goldfish: A Multifandom Multimedia Microbang! We draw ever-nearer to the conclusion of the event, but it's not quitting time yet. Stay with us! We're still having fun, making friends, and finding fresh new ways to express our fannish feelings. That famous February V-Day is upon us, and whether you're keen on romance, friendship, or a bit of both, we've got not one but two prompts for you:

WEEK SEVEN: Valentine’s, Galentine’s, & Palentine’s One love! Valentine’s Day is more than a romantic holiday: it’s the perfect occasion to celebrate community, connection, and friendship. Thus, two extra-special prompts to celebrate: • Create a work as a gift for a friend, mutual, or partner. AND/OR: • Make fannish Valentines to exchange with fandom friends.

It's also a great week to try a bonus prompt. Our suggestion?

Epic Crossover Event Make friends and influence people: collaborate with another participant to create a work.

Feel free to brainstorm, discuss, make friends, or let us know what you're cooking up in the comments here or on tumblr. We're excited to see what you create. Stay curious!

We're bringing sexy back: it's week six of Be A Goldfish: A Multifandom Multimedia Microbang! Last week, we got back to fannish basics with tropes, tropes, tropes, from cliches to variations on the classics to brand-new interpretations! This week, we're getting down with the ladies:

WEEK SIX: Girls, Girls, Girls Who run the world? Create a work centering on a female character. We wholeheartedly welcome transgender, intersex, and nonbinary women alongside their cisgender sisters.

Feel free to brainstorm, discuss, make friends, or let us know what you're cooking up in the comments here or on tumblr. We're excited to see what you create. Stay curious!

These works are posted across Dreamwidth, AO3, and Tumblr, so be sure to check out those other sites if you haven’t had a chance yet! You may also peruse the response sheet, which lists all logged entries across all sites.

Welcome back, fish friends! Feeling friendly? Say hello to week five of Be a Goldfish: A Multifandom Multimedia Microbang! Week four was another winner: jam-packed with fun, friendship, and throwback fanworks, from childhood favourites to the first fandoms that inspired you to create! We're nearly halfway through Be a Goldfish, and there's still so much to look forward to: exciting prompts, a monthly roundup from mod Vinny, a February comment crawl, and more.

Presently we are fewer than 10 works away from a milestone 100: will you help us get there before the end of January? Create, create, create! Here's a prompt to keep you swimming:
WEEK FIVE: On Thursdays We Try Tropes Get back to fannish basics: create a work inspired by a trope, or mix it up and do a trope inversion. Check out TV Tropes, this List of Tropes, or Multifandom Tropefest for inspiration.
Feel free to brainstorm, discuss, make friends, or let us know what you're cooking up in the comments here or on tumblr. We're excited to see what you create. Stay curious!

Feeling fin-tastic? It's week four! Week three was tons of fun, and we're so proud of everyone who's participated thus far, whether you've created, commented, or cheered everyone on. Let's keep things footloose and fancy-free with another prompt:
WEEK FOUR: An Oldie But a Goodie Halfway there, living on a prayer! Harken back and create a work for your first-ever fandom. What piece of media was the first to spark that special something? Share with the class: perhaps a gifset to demonstrate the appeal of a childhood classic, an essay which extrapolates on the meta you’ve been considering for years, or a craft to connect with your inner fannish child.
Feel free to brainstorm, discuss, make friends, or let us know what you're cooking up in the comments here or on tumblr. We're excited to see what you create. Stay curious!

That's right folks, one down, seven-ish to go! Here's a quick overview of contributions thus far:
  • 34+ Works
  • 21+ Creators
  • 26+ Fandoms
  • 8 Mediums
To say that we are incredibly thrilled with the turnout so far would be an understatement. We've had so much fun seeing, reading, and listening to all of the works you've all shared.

We are especially pleased with the diverse range of works shared here. You all have really embodied the spirit of this microbang. We couldn't be more honored that you have shared these wonderful works with us and your fellow fans.

If you haven't had a chance yet, check out our tumblr, [tumblr.com profile] bag-bang. There's some works over there that haven't been shared here or to the AO3 collection, so make sure you don't miss out!

All of that being said, a few housekeeping reminders:
  • Our FAQ is linked in our Welcome Sticky, the community sidebar, and the AO3 Collection Profile. In it are all links to all event pages, work and posting guidelines, and resources for writing image descriptions and comments. Give it a read if you haven’t yet.

  • Please make sure you're filling out the Entry Submission Form whenever you share a work. As we've said, folks are sharing works across different sites, and we don't want anyone's work to get left behind. You can find the link to the form in our FAQ, our Welcome Sticky, and in the community sidebar.

  • If you've had trouble locating the AO3 Collection, you can do so from our FAQ, our Welcome Sticky, or the community sidebar. All works posted to AO3 can be added, whether they are fic, podfic, art, or something else!

  • When it comes to tagging entries, with !needs tag or otherwise, please make sure you are doing so in the the Tags: box of the Post an Entry page. This is so we can locate all entries in need of tags rather than checking each entry.

  • Similarly, all entries should have a Subject that includes the medium and title or a brief description. You may also include fandom if you wish, as that is an important descriptor. This makes it easy for folks to view all works on a page in the community sidebar, and determine if your work may be of interest to them!

  • It is a priority that this event be made accessible for all fans, meaning that all images and gifs must include alt text and/or a description of the relevant contents of that image. We have resources for writing alt text and descriptions linked in our FAQ if you’re not sure how to go about it. You can add alt text via the Short Description box in the Image Properties pop-up in the Rich Text Editor.
Finally, we want to thank you all for joining us during this first week! We hope you're all having happy new years, and we appreciate that you're spending yours with us. We look forward to all of the lovely comments and works you share in the coming weeks. Don't forget to be curious, have fun, and above all, "be a goldfish!"

If you haven't joined us yet, and would like to, you can find our FAQ in, you guessed it, our Welcome Sticky or the community sidebar!

Welcome, fish friends, to the first week of Be A Goldfish: A Multifandom Multimedia Microbang 2026-A. Cannonball! The water's fine. Let's kick things off with a prompt to jump-start your creativity:

New Year, New Fandom

Confetti, fireworks, sparkling beverages: 2026 begins! Let’s get this party started. Create a work for a fandom for which you have never created a work. Get out of your comfort zone. Paint a picture of a brand-new blorbo! Write meta for a fandom you’ve only ever lurked in! Anything will do so long as it’s new, or at least not yet shared.

Feel free to brainstorm, discuss, make friends, or let us know what you're cooking up in the comments here or on tumblr. We're excited to see what you create. Stay curious!

Check out our Prompt Doc for the entire list of this round's prompts. Refer to our Welcome Sticky or FAQ for posting guidelines.

This is an event for the little works: ficlets, drabbles, meta, zines, fanart, playlists, recipes, web weaves, gifsets, friendship bracelets, pottery, paintings, and anything and everything else you can think of, so long as it's in the micro spirit of things. We hold commenting and creating in equal esteem and welcome both as avenues of participation!

There's no sign-ups, no check-ins, and no pressure. Connect with us here or on Tumblr, and post, comment, share, and celebrate as much or as little as your heart desires from 1 January to 28 February 2026. With just a week and change left until start, we wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that participants are eligible for some awards!

For anyone that shares fanworks, banners boasting a numerical summary of your contributions are available. Currently, we can host up to nine unique types of fanwork per banner. If you manage to create more than that, let us know and we will work with you to create a banner you're satisfied with.

For those who try something new with their fannish expression, you can request as many first medium tokens as desired. They will include your name of choice and whatever first [medium] you request (provided it's under ten characters long), be it fic, gifs, vids, meta, fanfoods, crafts, or anything else!

Finally, for anyone who completes a punch card, you may request a "punch out" sticker token that you can paste onto your banner, other tokens, icons, or wherever else you desire. Reminder that both commenters and creators are both eligible for punch card awards.

All awards can be requested upon event conclusion by filling out the Summary Form. They will be delivered as swiftly as possible and in order of request. Questions, comments, concerns? Comment on this post or send us an email at bagfishbang@gmail.com.

Feel free to join our community and/or follow us on tumblr [tumblr.com profile] bag-bang. We hope you join us for this round of Be a Goldfish!

With just two weeks until start, we wanted to take a moment to shine a light on something new we're trying this round: Punch Cards!

See Punch Cards )

The rules are simple: every week that you leave a comment on someone's work and/or share one of your own, you can punch, stamp, or otherwise mark this handy punch card.

You can do all comments, all works, or mix it up week to week. You can even challenge yourself to black out an entire card for both!

While technically speaking, these squares correspond to the weekly prompts, it's your choice as to how closely or loosely you adhere to that schedule. If you would like to follow the prompt schedule, comment on someone else's entry for that week's prompt (which may or may not be possible) or share one of your own.

All of this is completely optional and exists merely to provide an extra bit of fun, and a practical goal for those who desire it. Who doesn't need something to strive for sometimes?

Whether you mark a single square, or get a black out, share with us! Post your card or a link to your card to the community so we can all bask in your awesome fists of fury. Your fistabilities (this is a punching things reference. nothing else). We would especially love to see the works that led you to mark off each square, you may very well have the beginnings of a rec or masterlist!

We've provided both a full color digital card and a black and white printer-friendly card. For maximum quality you can download them from this drive folder (for printing we reccomend something wallet- to postcard-sized).

T-minus: three weeks! Be A Goldfish is back and better than ever. Are you as excited as we are?

In an effort to encourage regular participation, as well as to provide structure to those who thrive on it, we’ve prepared weekly prompts to inspire you throughout the course of the event. As follows:

  • WEEK ONE: New Year, New Fandom
  • WEEK TWO: New Medium, No Tedium
  • WEEK THREE: Don’t Dodge the Draft
  • WEEK FOUR: An Oldie But a Goodie
  • WEEK FIVE: On Thursdays We Try Tropes
  • WEEK SIX: Girls, Girls, Girls
  • WEEK SEVEN: Valentine’s, Galentine’s, & Palentine’s
  • WEEK EIGHT: Favorite Character Fiesta

You may follow this schedule as rigidly or loosely as you wish: you are welcome to fulfill every prompt to the letter, or to ignore them entirely. Engage as suits! Have fun with it! We will post each prompt weekly, too, to keep them fresh on the mind.

Additionally, we've prepared four bonus prompts, which you are free to swap or combine with any scheduled week as desired:

  • Bonus One: Epic Crossover Event
  • Bonus Two: Back to the BAGBang
  • Bonus Three: Tactile Touchables Tea Party
  • Bonus Four: Meta & Margaritas

Questions, comments, concerns? Check out our prompt document for details, suggestions, and further inspiration. Want more? Try this list of prompting blogs on tumblr, or this compilation of prompting communities on Dreamwidth. Don't forget to give our FAQ a look too! It's got all the key details, dates, and links.

We want you to be curious, create to your heart's content, and experiment with your fannish expression.
