Hey! That's a great question! For us, consistency is king. Non-canonical tagging on AO3 varies widely from person to person and isn't always the most effective for searching and collecting works (until they have been connected by the tag wranglers). Some people may tag and others may not, or those who do create event tags may do so differently from others. At this point in time, we believe it easier to prevent potentially inconsistent or decentralized tagging by avoiding it altogether.
That being said, all challenge works shared on the archive can already be collected in the official subcollection for each round. Individuals are also welcome to create their own collections or series to keep their event works collected on their own profiles.
But of course, we can't stop anyone from doing this. We won't remove or disallow any works that have event tags, we would just prefer if people used the archive's collections and series features instead.
