Cade is tired. He's tired of fighting, of running and hiding. But he can't give up. He has to make the Gua pay for killing his wife. Even now he can still see her face. Can still remember everything about that night. The images and emotions are seared into his brain.
Cade wakes with a start. He never sleeps well now. Not even in this place. The only place he can feel secure. Next to him a warm body moves, an arm wraps itself round his waist, and a sleepy male voice mumbles, "Go back to sleep, Cade. You're safe."
